Ai Ai Ai! AI-powered 3D POSE TRACKING (with no wearables): 9/15 Open Lab Summary
Kinetech Open Lab continues! As does Covid!
For any of you who don't know, Open Lab is an opportunity for artists, scientists, & enthusiasts from different backgrounds to experiment across the boundaries of technology and expression. Hosted by Kinetech Arts, this is a free event hosted each Wednesday (none on the last Wednesday of each month).
For today's lab, we explored the AI-powered 3d pose tracking – in the collaboration between Kineviz, Wei's company, and USF students.
USF graduate student Marisa Tania gave us a great presentation.
Right now, VR is super bulky and extremely limited. You've got the goggle stuff and two hand things. But that also kind of sucks because VR software can't pick up anything else about what any of your many limbs are doing aside from the two controllers in your hand.
That's why what this group is working on is so impressive – making interactive 3D motion capture sans wearables.
Stay up to date with more Open Lab hybrid-offline-online shenanigans by joining our meetup group here and come play and dance with us between 6-7:15 PM Pacific time on Wednesdays!
